God is sovereign.
God is in charge of everything, including the little things.
Not a hair falls from our heads without God's divine will.
We must rest in God's grace, as we are totally unable to contribute to our salvation.
What word pops into people's minds when they hear Christians making the above statements? Calvinist. Usually these beliefs are associated with those of the Calvinist persuasion. However, Father de Decaussade was a Roman Catholic Priest who taught that God is truly sovereign, and therefore our whole lives can be lived in the knowledge that all things are working for our good. We may not understand why God does things the way he does, or how our suffering can ultimately be for our good, but we can trust our benevolent Lord, who has decreed all things, is good and just. Reading Abandonment to Divine Providence will help the reader surrender to God's will. The result? Spiritual peace in the arms of a loving God.

Abandonment to Divine Providence edition by JeanPierre de Caussade Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews
God is in charge, not me, not the world, God. So, believing that, how should I live my life? Thank you Jean-Pierre for the clear instruction and explanation. Ever relevant. Ever true. Ever inspiring.
With the emphasis on "Doing it my way" in recent decades, this book reminds everyone that God has the last say and that we need to depend on him. The author is quite sympathetic to the problems people have doing that.
I would recommend everyone read this. It's good for the soul. My copy is so marked up with highlighter )
I am a Daughter of the Saint Francis de Sales Association, and he always spoke about the present moment. Jean-Pierre de Caussade continues with this theme. He helps you to understand that following Gods' plan really isn't hard at all, just do the right thing all the time. I am very happy to have found this book, and highly recommend it to anyone who wishes to improve their Spiritual life.
This is a wonderful, unpretentious book written in the 18th century that is as fresh and relevant as if it were recently written. I am not a writer, so won't try to elaborate. I will say that It is a spiritual book originally written by a French priest to encourage a bunch of nuns to trust in God. It is plain spoken, yet beautiful. I am rereading it for the 3rd time and see something new every time.
Always!! I have had it for years, this was a gift to a friend who had never heard of him and she was blown away. For anyone on the spiritual journey, this book takes you through the detailed blessings of surrender. It's a must have no matter your path.
"Abandonment" is the very first book i read when I entered religious life 60 years ago. It is a classic of religious literature. The concept of "the Sacrament of the Present Moment" has been both sustaining and inspiriing all these years. It's a bit "archaic" in its language, but the meaning derived from it is worth the effort of trying to navigate the language difficulties.
